This past Sunday, Lifetime premiered its newest drama, "Witches of East End" to wonderful reviews from viewers. Many reviewers compared it to "Charmed" in that it is that good and maybe better once we become invested in these characters as we did those of Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige.
Others stated that they felt as if they were thrown into a whirlwind of action and excitement that readers of the book series would love.
The New York Times called it a a "welcome relief from the rather humorless witches and possible witches who have already turned up in shows like “The White Queen,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “The Originals.”
The first show was a fast introduction to the Beauchamp women- Joanna, mother, Freya and Ingrid, her daughters and Wendy, Joanna's sister. You learn that Joanna can speak with the dead, Wendy, can turn into a cat and has nine lives and the two young girl's don't know that they are witches.
The first show switches back and forth between characters quickly in the first show, and if you haven't read the books I would think that it would be hard to keep up with.
The best scenes, in my opinion, were those with Ingrid in them as well as Wendy. Both were funny and really seemed to bring a depth to the show.
This show is definitely going to be one of the best "witch" shows on television. The female leads are wonderful and empowering and I look forward to the more in depth magic that the show inevitably delve into. This is a great show!
"Witches of East End" will air every Sunday evening on Lifetime at 10:00 pm EST. It is based on the series by Melissa dela Cruz and they are available here.
