Wish Upon a Wedding, America's first nonprofit wedding wish granting organization, is “based on the concept that two people in love should never be denied the chance to marry their soul mate, even if they only have months (or weeks) to live” by granting weddings & civil union ceremonies at destinations across the US to couples facing life-threatening medical conditions; celebrating the courage & spirit of these couples.
Chicago Chapter President, Ali Phillips from Engaging Events by Ali is inspired to head the local chapter of this worthy organization and is looking forward to taking her event planning experience and skills to help serve couples who are facing life altering struggles to bring them joy and happiness for their wedding or civil union.
On Wednesday, March 24, 2010 the Chicago Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding held it's launch at Ravenswood Event Center where 250 event professionals gathered together to celebrate and learn how to get involved in the organization. Photography provided by Deja Views.
Wish Upon a Wedding Chicago is proud to announce its first wedding wish to take place on Sunday, April 18, 2010, for Beth and Nick. Beth is currently undergoing treatment for urachal adenocarcinoma and described the experience of being selected as:
- “being granted a Wish Upon a Wedding event has meant so much to me and Nick, it's hard to describe. While we wanted to be able to share the joy of our marriage with our family and friends, we don't have time, money or energy to devote to planning that wedding in the midst of my illness - especially the time! Wish Upon a Weddings’ generosity will give us the chance to have the wedding of our dreams and more. We are so grateful!”
Wish Upon a Wedding Chicago is planning a black tie gala which will be held in November, 2010. At this time the date has not been announced but look for an announcement soon of the date and location in Chicago, IL
