The weekend of June 7th and 8th is Free Fishing Weekend in Wisconsin. Neither residents nor non-residents need a fishing license to head out and try their skill fishing on Wisconsin waters. Many other activities are also open to the public for free that weekend.
Anyone interested in getting outdoors or perhaps trying a new outdoor recreational activity should mark their calendars and make their plans this week to get out there. People will also enjoy free admission to state parks as well as the ability to use the state trail system with no charge. ATV and UTV trails are also open to public riding for the weekend.
Even those without fishing gear can get in on the action with Wisconsin's Tackle Loaner Program, Many DRN offices as well as state parks have fishing rods available at no charge for those who might not have the equipment. Keep in mind that all equipment is offered on a first come, first served basis. If interested, you can borrow equipment for up to one week, depending on demand in your area. It is simply asked that you return the equipment in the same condition in which you borrowed it. If you have equipment, but would like to help out with the program, many sites would like help with equipment maintenance. All of that information can also be found on the DNR Website.
Many areas are hosting some great events to go along with Free Fishing Weekend. If you're interested in fishing, but you're not sure where to start, check out the DNR Website for events in your area. Make 2014 the year you take the kids and get involved in a new outdoor activity. Check out Wisconsin's Free Fishing Weekend with your family and friends.
