Lake Geneva’s Annual Winterfest opened with a weekend featuring the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition on Sat., Feb 1, 2014. Artisans worked on the snow sculptures during the week for the competition and display on the weekend of Feb. 1-2 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.). There will be special Winterfest activities through the week and during the weekend of Feb. 8-9 at the popular destination, within driving distance from Milwaukee and Chicago.
The snow sculptures are at Riviera Park, on the lakefront in downtown Lake Geneva. Entertainment for the weekend includes music, magic, refreshments, activities, helicopter rides, shopping and dining. Crowning of the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition Champion's Award, second, third place and the Peoples' Choice award are on Sat. Afternoon.
Enjoy a leisurely winter day viewing the fanciful snow sculptures in the park and taking in the brisk fresh air. The snow sculptures are on display as long as weather permits, or as long as they do not melt or get distroyed by the elements.
There is food available at Rivera Park during the hours of the festival. There are also several restaurants in the vicinity, for those who chose to get out of the winter weather to enjoy a meal. The restaurants Popeye's and Scuttlebutt's are located directly across the street from Riviera Park.
Horse drawn carriages are parked in front of Riviera Park for guests who want to take a tour of downtown Lake Geneva.
This year Winterfest will extend into the week of Feb. 3-8. The schedule of events includes Laser Tag, Beach Party, S' mores, Bonfire, and Human Dog Sled Races.
A free shuttle, sponsored by the City of Lake Geneva, runs from the Northeast corner of the Home Depot parking lot to the corner in front of U.S. Bank on Sat, Feb. 1 and Sun. Feb. 2 (10 a.m, - 6 p.m.). There is also parking on the street in front of Riviera Park, although the parking spaces are at a premium.
