If you are looking for snow tonight and early on Saturday, the chances for it have steadily decreased so uncertainty remains.
Over the last 24 hours, forecast models have trended drier with the wintry weather possibilities across Central and Southern Mississippi.
And for this reason, the Winter Storm Watch that was issued Thursday afternoon for the southern half of the state was replaced with an Winter Weather Advisory.
While snow is still possible across portions of Central and Southern Mississippi, only a dusting to up to 1.5 inches of snow is expected at this time. (This was never projected to be a significant weather event)
Relatively speaking, the heaviest snow, where up to 1 inch or slightly more could fall will extend from Natchez to the Hattiesburg area and south.
For most areas across Central Mississippi, flurries are most likely at this time with a chance of a dusting in some spots. And as for Northern Mississippi, little if any no snow expected at this time.
Of course, this is an ever changing weather situation and everyone should continue to monitor the latest weather information as it becomes available as snow events in the south can be very unpredictable.

Winter Weather Advisory Counties:
Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Clarke, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Greene, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Simpson, Smith, Stone, Walthall, Wayne, Wilkinson
National Weather Service Statement:
LIGHT SNOW...INITIALLY MIXED WITH LIGHT RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST LOUISIANA FRIDAY EVENING. THE SNOW MAY BECOME BRIEFLY MODERATE INTO FRIDAY NIGHT AS IT SPREADS EASTWARD ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTHERN THIRD OF MISSISSIPPI. THE PRIMARY TIMEFRAME FOR SNOW LOOKS TO OCCUR BETWEEN 7 PM AND 2 AM TONIGHT. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS AROUND 1 INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. MOST OF THE SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES, THOUGH SLUSH ON ROADWAYS COULD MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
While the possibility for snow has been the main focus, this is the coldest airmass of the season overall.
High temperatures will likely hold in 40s today and on Saturday with the coldest night coming Saturday night with lows dropping well into the 20s across much of the state.
Warmer temperatures are expected by Sunday ahead of the next storm system, which will bring rain by Sunday night.
Below are temperatures trends for select cities across the state through the weekend:
