Snow is on track to impact portions of Central and Southern Mississippi, Friday night into early Saturday morning.
Areas south of Interstate 20 have the best chance of receiving over an inch of snowfall with a few areas possibly receiving up to 3 inches.
For this reason a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for this area.
In addition, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the possibility of a mix of snow and sleet with less than one inch of snowfall possible.
For areas north of Interstate 20, flurries and or a period of light snow is possible but no major accumulations of snow are anticipated at this time, but continue to monitor the latest weather information as this weather situation could change rapidly. (Snow events in the Deep South can be very unpredictable)

National Weather Service Statement:
LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST LOUISIANA FRIDAY EVENING.
THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BECOME MODERATE INTO FRIDAY NIGHT AS IT SPREADS EASTWARD ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE. MOST OF THE SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES, THOUGH SLUSH ON ROADWAYS WILL MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
This is just the beginning of what will likely be a very active Winter ahead with several wintry weather threats and possible severe weather threats, which are typical during an El Nino pattern. So if you miss out on the weather event on Friday night and early Saturday morning, there will likely be several more opportunities ahead.
