Winter Storm Watch for Chicago Friday night-Saturday; winter storm #2 next week

See also

The weather pattern has turned active once again with the likelihood of not one, but two winter storms over the next week (both which could bring significant snow/ice accumulations).

The first winter storm will move into the region Friday night through Saturday, almost exactly 3 years from the famous Groundhog Day Blizzard that dumped more than 20 inches of snow over the region. The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire area Friday night through Saturday. There is the potential for snow accumulations of 6 or more inches (highest north). Areas south of Interstate 80 could see a wintry mix/ icy conditions. Ice accumulations in some spots could exceed a quarter of an inch.

The second winter storm is expected Tuesday. The forecast track of this storm so far is one that favors mostly snow across most of the region. This storm could bring another 6 inches or more to the area by Wednesday morning. This is something we will continue to keep an eye on as timing on this event nears.
