After several days of balmy weather in the Carolinas, conditions will rapidly change overnight into Sunday as a strong system will enter the region. The system is currently organizing over Texas and the deep south and will enter the region in the early morning hours. For most everyone this storm will begin as rain with temperatures above freezing, however, by afternoon the rain will switch to sleet and snow from west to east with the higher elevation mountain counties seeing snow by noon. Snow and sleet will continue into the evening hours. Warm ground conditions, temps hovering above freezing, and mixing will limit accumulations outside of the mountains, northern foothills, and NC/VA border counties. See accumulation map for details.
