Winter Storm Hercules brings year's first snow to Terre Haute

Winter storm Hercules deposited nearly six inches of snow on Terre Haute and Vigo County yesterday. The snowfall resulted in delays, cancellations, and accidents along Interstate 70, US 40, and US 41. Travel along the back roads remains difficult, but snow plow drivers have cleared the main streets.

The first Nor’easter of 2014 moved away from the area during the late afternoon, although it continues to affect the northeastern states. Several counties in West Central Indiana, including Parke and Vermillion Counties are under a travel advisory. An Indiana State Police representative urged motorists to stay home. If they could not stay home, they were urged to use caution if they needed to travel.

Wabash Valley residents face the threat of another snowstorm this weekend. The storm clouds gave way to sunshine before sunset, but the weather forecast predicts several extremely cold days during the next week. The cold snap should end by the middle of January.
