Due to the winter storm that moved through southern Louisiana last night and early morning (Jan 24), the Causeway has been closed in both directions due to icy conditions according to local news.

The Louisiana State Police Department also advised that Interstate 55 is also closed north and south bound, as well as many local streets and bridges. LAPD also advises Louisiana residents to not attempt to drive to Baton Rouge, La. due to many accidents and road closures in Baton Rouge.

Interstate 12 westbound is closed at O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge and Interstate 10 both north and southbound at Airline Highway.

Police and local officials in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La. are urging residents to stay off the street unless necessary.

The current temperature in New Orleans at 10 a.m. was 35 degrees, but with the wind chill factored in it feels like 27 degrees. A wintery mix of ice and snow is falling in surrounding areas and could reach New Orleans at some point in the afternoon. This mix will probably be a light rain for the New Orleans area.

The low tonight is forecasted to be 35 with a 10% chance of precipitation.
