With the first threat of snow fast approaching Atlanta, local winter sports enthusiasts are hoping for enough to make a snowman or do some sledding on hillsides. Unfortunately, the precipitation looks like it will be too sparse to accommodate them.
If, however, your appetite for fun in the snow has been whetted, you can head up to Scaly Mountain, North Carolina for snow tubing and ice skating. The Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center lies just across the state line from Sky Valley, Georgia and offers both those activities. When Mother Nature fails to provide enough snow, the outdoor center has the machinery to make its own.
Snow tubing sessions are offered daily, from Wednesday to Sunday. The slope is lighted and open on select evenings as well. Days and hours of operation are posted on the outdoor center calendar.
You can also try your hand at ice skating on their newly installed outdoor rink. And after a good work out on the ice and snow you can retire to the Downhill Grill for a warm drink and some food.
