A Yule tradition that was started several years ago by now disbanded Tacoma Earth Religions Revival Association (also known as TERRA) has been reawakened by the Facebook group Washington State Pagans. In the past years TERRA would gather together Pagans of all sorts, friends and family, and anyone else who wanted to celebrate the Winter Solstice at Firemans Park in Tacoma at dawn. After the disbandment of TERRA this event, as well as others, would not be happening and that saddened many people who took part in the solstice celebrations and other gatherings.
Thankfully for all of those that loved the Winter Solstice celebration, Washington State Pagans has stepped up to the plate and will be hosting this year’s event. All those attending the event are encouraged to dress warmly and bring with them a hot beverage and maybe some sweet treats to share. Washington State Pagans are going to drum in the sun at sunrise on December 21, 2013 at about 7 a.m, so don't forget your drum or favorite percussion piece. Please try to come a little early and enjoy your time with some interesting and friendly people of all faiths. After the sun rises the group plans to head over to Shadrbara on 6th Avenue for breakfast and everyone is welcome to join them.
As TERRA still has the herb garden stewardship at Point Defiance Park, Washington State Pagans will be collecting donations to help keep that program alive. However, donations are not required and this Winter Solstice event is free and open to all people of any faith.
