With its rolling hills and primarily urban and suburban surrounds, Cincinnati is not known as a prime ski destination. However, all is not lost for those who enjoy swishing down the slopes, as there are several places to go skiing within easy driving distance of Cincinnati.
Perfect North Slopes is located just 30 minutes west of Cincinnati in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Perfect North not only offers skiing and snowboarding, but snow tubing as well. Snow tubing is similar to sledding, except instead of a sled you use an inflatable inner tube device. Your ticket purchase for skiing or snowboarding includes a 50 minute starter lesson for those ages four and up; tickets are valid for up to eight consecutive hours of skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. If you don't have gear for skiing or snowboarding, you can rent the needed equipment from Perfect North for an additional charge over your admission ticket.
Perfect North operates Sundays through Thursdays from 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m.-1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays (snow tubing operates the same weekend hours as skiing, but from 1:00-9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.)
Mad River Mountain Ski Resort is located in Zanesfield (Bellefontaine), Ohio, just about two hours northeast of Cincinnati. Mad River Mountain is Ohio's largest ski resort and has been in operation since 1962. Mad River Mountain offers skiing and snowboarding, as well as snow tubing at their Avalanche Tubing Park. Mad River is located at Ohio's highest skiing elevation: 1,460 feet.
There are a variety of ticketing options for all activities at Mad River, as well as a variety of equipment rental options. Unlike Perfect North, if you are in need of lessons, you will need to pay extra at Mad River.
Mad River Mountain Ski Resort operates from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays; Fridays from 10-3:00 a.m.; Saturdays from 9-3 a.m. (3 a.m. closing times are for Midnight Madness Fridays and Saturdays), and Sundays from 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m. The Avalanche Tubing Park operates Thursdays through Sundays only and offers shorter hours of operation.
Located in Southern Indiana, near French Lick, is Paoli Peaks. Paoli Peaks is just under a 3-hour drive from Cincinnati. They offer skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Because it is a little further from Cincinnati, you might want to check out area lodging options. Paoli Peaks partners with various local accommodations , including many offering packages featuring discounts for lift tickets and equipment rental.
