This recipe has been tweaked and tested over a dozen times. Served with red kidney beans our panelists all agree - this is the best chili they have ever tasted. We have never had any person stop after eating just one bowl. Prep time is about 15 minutes.
Cheese and/or crackers can also be added or served on the side.
We prefer to buy our vegetable's at the West Side Market or at Rego Brothers Supermarket due to supreme crispness and freshness. The freshest of cheese is also available at both locations. We believe this to be the key ingredient to an excellent outcome.
- Wine pairing: Try a Syrah or Malbec with this chili
- 1.25 cup chopped green pepper
- 1.25 cup chopped celery
- 2 15 oz. cans red kidney beans (optional)
- 2 16 oz. cans tomatoes (plain)
- 1 6 oz. can tomato paste
- 1.25 cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- garlic powder (season to taste)
Brown ground beef in skillet. About half way through cooking add the onion, green pepper, and celery. Cook until beef is browned. Drain. In stew pot add kidney beans (minus liquid, if beans are desired), canned tomato, tomato paste, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, meat and veggies. Cover, simmer for 1.5 hours. Meal serves 10.
