Winter Outdoor Family Fun in Cincinnati

Okay, I’ll admit it, I am not a big fan of winter. From scraping ice off my car windows to shoveling a path in my yard for our dog, I just don’t enjoy being cold and covered in snow.

Kids, and my dog, however, for the most part love it! Here are some places to have some wintry family fun near you:

Hit the trails at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Skiing, tubing and snowboarding are some of the fun options at this family-run resort. Lessons and rentals are available. The Chow Corral and two additional snack shops are there to fill your bellies while you take a break and warm up. The Loft Shop features many apparel and gear choices. Their website offers great tips for first timers to make your day fun and safe. www.perfectnorth.com

Great Parks of Hamilton County offers up a variety of winter activities including: cross-country skiing, hiking, ice fishing, outdoor ice skating and sledding. Cross-country skiing is available everywhere except golf courses and conservation areas (bring your own equipment), hiking is permitted on all trails, ice fishing is available depending on the thickness of ice as is ice skating, and sledding is available at certain parks. Check in advance for conditions and which park allows what activities as these vary. Motor vehicle permit required. http://greatparks.org/activities/winter-sports. Check in advance for ice fishing and ice skating availability status.

The US Bank Ice Rink on Fountain Square is open through February 14th. What better way to top of your trip downtown? Lace up and enjoy the ambience of Fountain Square then head to a nearby restaurant for a warm up, do some shopping or visit a museum. Rental skates available and convenient parking in the garage directly under the square. For fees and hours of operations, visit: www.myfountainsquare.com.

For an overnight winter escape, check out Heuston Woods Lodge and Conference Center in College Corner. Offering comfortable rooms with plenty of amenities, outdoor activities include: cross country skiing (bring you own equipment), hiking and special events during the winter. Check out the family escape packages-including a pizza, movie rental and game tokens! www.heustonwoodslodge.com

And if being chilly is not your cup of hot cocoa-hang on, spring will be here before we know it.
