Olympic crafts are a fun way for kids to learn about the Olympics. With the Winter Olympics coming up it is a great time to make them. They can also be fun to use as part of an Olympic party that includes watching the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, which will be on KVOA Channel 4 on February 12, 2010.
Olympic Rings Crafts
- Paper Plate Olympic Rings - This craft is a pretty simple one using paper plates to make the five interlocking Olympic rings. For younger kids you may want to prep the craft by cutting the centers out of the plates before you do the craft with the kids.
- Tissue Paper Olympic Rings - This is a nice colorful craft using different colored tissue paper to make the Olympic rings.
- Beaded Olympic Suncatcher - This is a big beaded craft compared to most of the small animal patterns, but it is also an easy one of straight rows.
- Olympic Rings Paper Cut - This one is meant to be for the Beijing Olympics being a Chinese style of art, but it still works for any Olympics. It might look great done in blue for the Winter Olympics.
Olympic Torch Crafts
- Ceremonial Olympic Torch - This is a simple torch craft using mostly construction paper and tissue paper.
- Olympic Torch - This torch craft uses tissue paper like the one above, but it uses a recycled paper tube instead of construction paper.
- Bottle Olympic Torch - This craft uses a plastic water bottle and aluminum foil for the base.
Other General Olympic Crafts
- Crown of Olive Leaves - This is an easy craft made out of construction paper. If you can it might be fun to put some real olive leaves on it. It may be illegal now to plant olive trees in Tucson, but there are still some around that predate the law.
- Olympic Medal Count Chart - This craft is a great thing to do before the Olympics begin and then use as a daily activity updating it. The NBC website below can help you keep the medal count chart up-to-date.
