According to an SI report from Feb. 4, 2014, everything is set for the start of the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi, Russia, beginning Friday, Feb. 7 and concluding Sunday, Feb. 23.

This year’s XXII Winter Olympics are of historical significance because it marks the first time that the Games are held in the Russian Federation since the fall of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) some 23 years ago.

A total of 88 nations will compete in 98 events, which will be divided into 14 winter sports disciplines (7 sports). According to 2014 Winter Olympics oddsmakers, the United States is the odds-on favorite to capture the most medals this year in Sochi.

Las Vegas betting experts give the “Red, White and Blue” -110 (money-line) betting chances of accomplishing this feat, with the host country, Russia [+225], coming in as a distant second place. Rounding out the top three odds to win the most medals is Germany at +300 odds.
