The Winter Jam 2013 Tour Spectacular winds its way to Des Moines' Wells Fargo Arena (730 Third Street) this Saturday, January 26. The doors will open at Wells Fargo at 3:30 p.m. for the Youth Music Vault Pre-Jam Party. Then the doors for the main concert open at 5 p.m., with the music starting at 6 p.m. There are no tickets for this event--everyone pays $10 at the door. Here is a look at this year's lineup for the event.
Headliner TobyMac is a Grammy Award-winner, Dove Award-winner, American Music Award-winner, and one of Christian music's top draws. The Christian rapper/rocker has had three #1 Christian albums and five #1 Christian singles, and that doesn't include his many accomplishments during his thirteen years with DC Talk. Red has already achieved enormous crossover success in their career. The band's debut album cracked the Top 20 on the Heat, Indie, and Christian charts. Their second album made the Top 10 on the Christian, Rock, Indie, Digital, and Alternative charts, and it hit #15 on the Billboard 200. Album #3, 2011's Until We Have Faces, went even further. Faces topped the Rock, Hard Rock, Alternative, Indie, and Christian charts and hit #2 on the Digital chart and Billboard 200. The band's latest effort, Release the Panic, is due out February 5. The band has been nominated for 2 Grammy Awards and won 5 Dove Awards.
Matthew West is Dove Award-winner and a two-time Grammy nominee. West has released five Top 20 Christian albums, and he has seventeen Top 20 singles, including four #1 hits, to his credit. West's latest album, Into the Light, came out last September.
Jamie Grace was discovered by TobyMac in 2010. She released 2 EPs and her debut album in 2011. Her very first single, "Hold On", climbed to #1 on the Christian chart. Grace's efforts in 2011 earned her a Grammy nomination and 4 Dove Award nominations (including a win for New Artist of the Year) in 2012.
Winter Jam founders NewSong have released more than 25 albums over the past 31 years, including 8 albums that cracked the Top 20 on the Christian chart. Over the years, the band accumulated 8 Dove Award nominations, a Grammy nomination, two #1 albums, a #1 Adult Contemporary single, and twenty #1 Christian radio singles. NewSong's latest album, Swallow the Ocean, is due out in February.
Nashville's Sidewalk Prophets have toured with some of the biggest names in Christian music. The Prophets have five Top 20 singles, including the 2011 #1 smash "You Love Me Anyway". Sidewalk Prophets have been nominated for 3 Dove awards, winning one for the "New Artist of the Year" in 2010.
Also from Nashville, Royal Tailor got their big break when Provident Music Group VP of A&R Jason McArthur got a listen to the band's EP and signed the band. The band's 2011 debut full length album, Black & White, was nominated for a Grammy Award and produced the #1 Christian radio single "Make a Move".
Texas singer/songwriter Jason Castro got noticed in 2008 when he appeared on American Idol. Castro has gone on to have a Top 20 album on the Billboard 200 and songs that have cracked the Top 20 on the Christian, Christian Adult Contemporary, and Heat charts. Castro's latest album, Only a Mountain, came out on January 15.
Atlanta's Oswald Brothers Band (OBB) got their big break because of a televised battle of the bands on CBS. The band of brothers (Zach, Jack, and Nich) released their first EP in 2010 and have a new self-titled EP that debuted in January.
Christian electro-pop duo Capital Kings released their self-titled debut album on January 8. The album features fellow Winter Jammers TobyMac and Royal Tailor, as well as Britt Nicole, Soul Glow Activatur, and Family Force 5 performing with the duo.
