Get out and enjoy winter at the annual winter hike at the Penitentiary Glen Reservation in Kirtland. Experience the woodlands as a Lake Metroparks naturalist guides you on a nature hike through field, forest and stream on February 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. There are three different hikes available to choose from, each varying in length and terrain. You can select either:
- An interpretive hike about three miles long with a few stops along the way.
- A shorter and easier hike for novice hikers.
- A self-guided trail option for people who want to enjoy the park on their own.
When the hike is over, there will still be lots of activities to do. You can sit by a campfire and snack on some delicious s’mores. Or stop by the Wildlife Center to see some native wildlife up close. Inside of the Nature Center you can listen to folk music performed by local musicians, and enjoy hot soup and beverages.
Pre-registration is required. Patch, s’mores, soup and beverages are all included in registration fee. Register online at lakemetroparks.com or call registration at 440-358-7275. The program is $8 per person and open to all ages.
