Winter Garden man killed by power line after Lake County accident

A Winter Garden man survived a traffic accident, but was killed Saturday when he walked into a live power line afterwards, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says 21-year old Jamal Ashim had been westbound on Cook Road, when he lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason, traveled onto the north shoulder of the road, and the front of the vehicle hit a power pole. Troopers say Ashim was not hurt in the accident near Schofield Road and left his vehicle. However, some power lines were damaged in the accident and were hanging from the power pole. The FHP says the man did not notice the power lines and, “…apparently walked into the dangling live wire and was instantly electrocuted.” Ashim was discovered by a passerby and pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examiner. The FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
