On Jan. 4, 2014, a representative from the Winter Estates in Fort Myers, Fla. announced that the turn out for the "Edison Ford Holiday Nights" had been steady up until today, its last day. She blamed the lower turn out on the cooler and rainy weather.
"We are still looking forward to more guests tonight to enjoy the lights. Business has been as usual right through the festive holidays!" - Winter Estates Rep
Up until 9 p.m. tonight, Jan. 4, the seasonally decorated homes and gardens of Thomas and Mina Edison and Henry and Clara Ford have been open to the public. That is about a week longer than in the past.
The Estates, too, are a popular local and tourist attraction, as they are every year said the rep.
"Throughout the day, all year long, visitors have the option of a self-guided tour or a guided tour with an Edison Ford site historian. Special holiday traditions tours are at 6 and 7 p.m."
The Winter Estates was chosen by the editors of a variety of media as being one of the best historic homes, tours and more.
The combined homes of Edison and Ford have also won awards. One award is that of the 2009 National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
"The Estates is also an official project of 'Save America’s Treasures' at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site." - Winter Estates
