It’s that time of year again when people from all over can enjoy the 127th St. Paul Winter Carnival. For all those animal lovers out there they have their choice of dog sledding, a cat show, and/or pony rides.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival Sled Dog Race is no longer scheduled for the last weekend of January and has been postponed to Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 2 and 3 due to a lack of snowfall. Provided the coming days will have enough snow to secure the musher’s snow hooks the North Star Sled Dog Race will be held at Bald Eagle Lake in White Bear Township. The event will run from 10 a.m.-4:00 p.m. or until the end of racing each day. If dog sledding commences be sure to note any time adjustments at their website. Parking will be located at the Bald Eagle-Otter Lake Regional Park. The North Star Sled Dog Club is looking for anyone who can assist in various areas of need so please contact the NSSDC by email at joe@experiencesleddogs.com if you are able to volunteer.
The Saintly City Cat Show will be held at the St. Paul RiverCentre in the Roy Wilkins Exhibition Hall. The RiverCentre Parking Ramp is located off of Kellogg Blvd with skyway access to the Roy Wilkins building. The feline demonstration will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26 and will run from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. that day and then again on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. or until final competitions. The Saintly City Cat Club is a non-profit organization celebrating their 37th annual show.
Pony Parties Express will take place at the Landmark Plaza located in downtown St. Paul by the Landmark Ice Rink. If driving see nearby parking ramps or obtain a Metro Transit Pass for free rides on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. The pony rides will be available this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27 from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. and again on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. According to the sales coordinator and social media lead for the winter carnival there will be five ponies available on average and children five and older will be allowed to ride at $5.
