Winter break comes with choices of activities

Winter is slightly different in Florida, with no snow or really cold weather, but schools still take a winter vacation for the holidays. Parents will be looking for places that are offering activities for the children when school is closed, and boredom sets in very quickly. Sarasota is fortunate in that there are several organizations that will be offering winter camps for the coming winter vacation from school.

*Newtown Estates will be offering a winter vacation from December 23-January 3 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays with activities for children of ages 5-12. Winter vacation hours at the estates will be 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on these selected days. Arts and crafts, music, and sports activities will be included in the choices for entertainment. Holiday games will also be enjoyed. Nature lovers might choose to participate in the nature studies that will be offered. Interested parents may register at www.parksonline.scgov.net.

*Children can get the winter break wiggles out by participating in the Winter Camp session that will be offered at Acrofit Gymnastics on Clark Road during school winter break. Winter Camp will be offered on December 23, 27, 30, and 31 for both half-day and whole-day sessions. Half-day session hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Whole-day sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3;30 p.m. Acrofit Gymnastics is located at 4015 Clark Road in Sarasota. Interested parents may call 941-923-2100 for more information about winter camp offerings at Acrofit Gymnastics, or log on at www.acrofitgymnasticssarasota.com.

*Colonial Oaks Park in Sarasota County is offering Winter Vacation in the Park from Dec. 23-Jan. 3 for ages 5-12. Vacation hours are from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. There is a charge of $8.50 for a half-day session, or a charge of $110 for all 14 of the vacation sessions. Half-day sessions are offered from 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and a supervised lunch will be offered if children are attending a whole-day session until 5:30 p.m. Interested parents may register children at www.parksonline.scgov.net.

Put some fun activities into school winter break this year by getting children involved in these winter break activities. School will be back in session before you know it!
