Winter Break is just around the corner and there is a fun and FREE way to spend winter break with your kids. Outlined below are just a few ideas of what free things you can do with kids in and around Buffalo February 13th-21st.
Feb. 15th, Monday: Dollar Day at the Botanical Gardens The Botanical Gardens are actually very kid-friendly. There are a few small ponds full of beautiful fish, a couple of small waterfalls, a giant checkerboard made of wood and a huge working train display!
Also, on Monday the 15th, Eastern Hills Mall has their annual giant beach area open for kids 12 and under. Summer in February begins Saturday, Feb. 13 and continues through Sunday, Feb. 21. The beach is open daily, Monday through Saturday from 11am – 7pm and Sundays from 11am – 4pm.
Feb. 16th, Tuesday: Crafts for Tweens and Teens at the Audubon Library. Your kids will be making crafts out of duct tape!
Also, for kids age 3-5 the Crane Branch Library hosts The Outstanding Octopus at 5:30 PM. Here is a description from the library website of this fun event: How does an octopus swim? What does it eat? Join us as we explore the outstanding octopus. Come and feel a model octopus tentacle. Make your own octopus to take home.
Feb. 17th, Wednesday: If you own your own ice skates head over to De Veaux Woods State Park for some free ice skating. The rink recently opened, it is FREE to the public and hours of operation are 11am-8pm daily.
And this Williamsville library event looks like a lot of fun! From 11:30am-1pm kids ages 8-12 can check out cool science concoctions. Some will fizz, some will launch, and others will just be plain outrageous! Registration is required.
Feb. 18th, Thursday: Past & Present Science & Nature Store & Fossil Gallery in Blasdell, NY. Past & Present is a unique shopping and educational destination that is great fun for the whole family. On Thursdays Past and Present is open from 10am-8pm and best of all admission is FREE. The fossil gallery looks amazing!
Feb. 19th, Friday: Head over to the Kazoo Factory, Museum and GIft Shop in Eden, NY. Admission is FREE and you can watch kazoos being made and make your own kazoo (that part is not free). The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday.
Feb. 20, Saturday: Flix Superplex at 4901 Transit Rd. in Lancaster shows Matilda at 10AM. This is FREE to the public and children must be accompanied by an adult. (A big thank you to Trixy at the Moms Like Me site for this great tip!)
Feb. 21, Sunday: TIFFT Nature Preserve hosts this years Winterfest from 1-4pm on Sunday. Admission is FREE but a donation of $3 is suggested. Read the description of all the fun activities from the TIFFT's website. This looks to be a fun event for the entire family!
