The SEEDS - Blacksburg Nature Center has planned a program on winter bird feeding for this Friday's weekly "Playdate Friday" theme. Playdate Friday is free and takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
Parents and kids of all ages are invited to come and learn how humans can give back to nature by sharing the bounty of harvest with hungry winter animals, especially birds.
Participants will learn which songbirds prefer which types of seeds, then make their own custom birdseed mixture, a hanging birdfeeder ornament for an outside tree, and even a dried fruit and popcorn garland.
As always, there will be theme-related books to read, and tons of hands on games and activities to play inside and outside.
The SEEDS - Blacksburg Nature Center is located at 107 Wharton Street SE in Blacksburg. (See map adjacent.)
