Winter blues? Here's 3 easy makeup pick-me-ups to warm the soul

Winter, for some, is a dreadful time of year. Warm weather seems almost fictional and the cold can wreak havoc on our skin, cars, and serotonin levels. When a bottle of Pinot fails to warm us up, makeup may do the trick. I’m here to present you with three extremely easy ways to perk up your winter look.

Use glitter over everything. Make your eyes sparkle like a pretty winter wonderland! Wet a flat eyeshadow brush with a makeup setting spray (or just plain water if you don’t have that) and press the glitter gently on your lid, over eyeshadow. Add some to the lower lash line for an even more glam look! I like NYX’s glitter jar in Silver because it's inexpensive ($4.50) and can be found at ULTA and select drug stores.

Ombre your lips. If you are especially reluctant to take the ombre-hair plunge that’s so popular right now, do it with something that can be easily removed. A red ombre lip is particularly relevant in the colder months; try Nightmoth lip liner by MAC ($15.00), feather it up towards the center of the lip, and then fill in with Ruby Woo lipstick also by MAC ($15.00). Side note: apply a balm either before or after as Ruby Woo specifically can be a little drying.

Use winter colors. This may seem a little “DUH” but hear me out. Colors like icy blues and frosty whites not only are generally complimenting to winter skin, but being on-trend with seasonal colors just makes you feel better in general – a little like “yeah, that’s right, I read Allure daily, wanna fight about it?” Don’t hesitate to seek Youtube tutorials or Google “winter colors” for some inspiration. My favorite wintery shadows are Electra by MAC, a pretty silver shimmer ($15), and Bobbi Brown’s Iced Blue ($21.00).
