Even though the city of Chicago is having a mild winter, some still wonder, anticipate, and dream about those upcoming summer days; those beautiful days when fun in the sun is the best thing to do in Chicago. This author sure does.
As a Beach Examiner, it doesn't make sense to visit the beaches of Chicago during the winter. There’s no fun in that and they’re closed.
However, once that thermometer starts rising to 80 degrees and up, it’s time to break out that old summer gear. You know the sandals, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
And it’s not just because this author and many others yearns to sit at the beach all day (even though there’s many to choose from). It’s because of the activities surrounding those beaches.
You have your summer sports like beach volleyball and water sports like surfing, waver running, and wind surfing.
Then there’s the great selection of food available, especially when there’s the Taste of Chicago across the street from North Avenue beach (yum!).

Finally, you have the annual ‘bodybuilders’ competition where meat heads fitness buffs, swimsuit models, and those who got in shape just in time for summer can show of their shapely physiques. Wow, this sounds like the beaches of California.
But alas, it’s only a dream for now. With February around the corner, who knows when summer will pop up in Chicago. Maybe it’ll be in March again like last year (fingers crossed). No one knows.
