Sochi superstars are getting their game on with last minute tweaking, qualifying, and mentally and physically preparing for competition at the XXII Winter Olympics beginning this week.
Everyone who works out is a winner
You don’t have to be an Olympian to get your hardcore (but fun) training in. Inspired by the Winter Games, Crunch Gym in Los Angeles, is offering a series of fast-paced classes with a competitive edge to push all fitness levels, and to award gold, silver and bronze medals ($50, $25 and $15 gift cards) to “deserving class members.” Everyone who works out is a winner.
Using the BOSU Balance Trainer you will build strength, endurance and balance inspired by XXII Olympic winter events like speed skating, skiing, luge and figure skating.
Crunch fitness trainers will lead various exercises on both sides of the BOSU ball. At the beginning of class, participants will be challenged work their abdominals and core by standing on the BOSU to simulate core training needed for Olympic based skiing events and snowboarding. And to mimic speed skating techniques, gliding discs are brought out to play with.
On the ice
The second part of class is focused on figure skating using both the BOSU and a body bar (not your typical Scott Hamilton skating partner!). Instructors will take you through a variety of dance-based moves and even “lifting your partner” aka the body bar, all while staying grounded and strong. “Skaters” will perform leg lifts and other exercises to simulate skating jumps.
Lastly, you hit the ground working back extensions and core as if training for the Luge and the Skeleton.
