Indie Spirt Awards announce independent film winners
Every year, the day before the Oscars, Film Independent present the Indie Spirit Awards. The 2013 awards were held Saturday Feb 24 in a tent at the beach in Santa Monica.
The Indie Spirit Awards often nominate several of the same films as the Oscars. This year is no different. To see a list of nominees see the official website.

Film Independent is an organization that sponsors the Independent Spirit Awards. They are also behind the popular L.A. Film Festival where many films have made their premieres. The "Twilight" series made their premieres at the festival, always with a huge red carpet.
This organization also offers Indie filmmakers classes and opportunities to get their film made, or at least pushed forward.
