According to TSN, the four Canadian curling teams that played very well at the Canadian Olympic curling pre-trials qualifier from Kitchener, Ontario in November continued their success on Sunday in day one of the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials from Winnipeg.

On the men's side, both Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario and John Morris of Kelowna, British Columbia were victorious, while on the women's side, Alberta's Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie and Valerie Sweeting of Edmonton were both in the win column.

Jacobs defeated Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg 7-4 in a rematch of the 2013 Tim Horton's Brier final. Morris meanwhile shocked the curling world by beating pre-tournament favourite Glenn Howard of Midland, Ontario 8-6.

On the women's side, Sonnenberg beat 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Heather Nedohin of Edmonton 8-6, while Sweeting clobbered reigning Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Rachel Homan of Orleans, Ontario 10-3.

Other winners Sunday included Sherry Middaugh of Victoria Harbour, Ontario who beat Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon 5-3, while tournament favourite Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg clobbered Winnipeg's Chelsea Carey 10-2. Reigning Olympic champion Kevin Martin of Edmonton defeated Mike McEwen of Winnipeg 5-3, while John Epping of Peterborough, Ontario defeated Calgary's Kevin Koe 9-8 in a high scoring contest. Epping made a fantastic draw to the four foot to give his team the win.
