The 2012 Doritos Super Bowl commercial, Man's Best Friend is the winner of the Crash the Super Bowl video contest, with Ad Meter picking it as the number one out of the five finalists including Hot Wild Girls, Dog Park, Sling Baby, and Birds of Prey. This year's grand prize winner is Jonathan Friedman, who created the commercial with the now-famous Great Dane, Huff. Ad Meter determined this to be the top spot during Super Bowl XLVI so Friedman gets a $1 million check along with the Super Bowl XLVI trip and $25,000 already awarded to all five finalists.
Proving once again the dogs are Man's Best Friend, last year's winner also featured a canine, with the winning 2011 Doritos ad Pug Attack, also featuring a dog. (continue reading below)
What does the winner, Jonathan Friedman, have to say about his $1 mil video? He tells The Virginian-Pilot:
"The CEO of the division came into the suite and announced the news ...the next thing you know, everybody was pouring champagne on my brother's head ... It's pretty incredible."
According to Frito-Lay, sponsors of the contest, Friedman spent just $20 to buy dog treats, a cat collar and a bag of Doritos tortilla chips to film Man's Best Friend. He borrowed a friend's dog, Huff, for the commercial that features the massive Great Dane bribing a man (actor Derek Leonidoff) with Doritos to cover up what he's done with the neighbor's cat.
On the morning after the Patriots lost to the Giants, the dog-eats-cat video created by Jonathan Friedman had over 435,000 views on YouTube, with Birds of Prey right behind it at 371,000. Surprisingly the video of the grandmother making her grandchild into a slingshot (Sling Baby) took 4th place after having the most views in the early hours of the Super Bowl.
