Wings of Freedom Tours brings vintage WWII aircraft to Chicago area

Wings of Freedom is bringing their nationwide tour to the Chicago area, with vintage airplanes that fly through the skies. The Wings of  Freedom Tour brings aviation history to Chicago area communities through the beginning of August. Scheduled tours in the Chicagoland area include Waukegan, West B-17, B-24 and P-51 in formation courtesy Wings of FreedomChicago, Valparaiso, Kankakee and Wheeling.

The Wings of Freedom Tour is a nationwide tour of the historic aircraft from WWII. Aircraft at the shows include B-17 and B-24 Bombers, P-51C Mustang, Civil Air Patrol and DPA tenant aircraft and flight school static displays.

The air show, by the Collings Foundation, has embarked on a mission over the American skies to honor veterans of World War II, promote education about the role of the aircraft and flight crews of WWII and to preserve these treasurers of American aviation history.
The nationwide tour is manned by a team of dedicated full – time volunteer pilots, mechanics and crews. The mission of the tour is to offer visitors a chance to see the historic aircraft in a hands on setting and to honor the brave veterans of WWII by keeping them in the public eye.
Wings of Freedom Tours in the Chicago Area
  • July 22 – 24 Waukegan, Illinois at Waukegan Regional Airport
  • July 24 – 26 West Chicago at Dupage Airport
  • July 27 – 29 Valparaiso, Indiana at Porter County Municipal Airport
  • July 29 – 31 Kankakee, Illinois at Greater Kankakee Airport
  • July 31 – August 3 Wheeling, Illinois at Chicago Executive Airport (Palwaukee)

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the authentically restored  vintage aircraft. Wings of Freedom Flight Experiences  will be offered for $425.  There are also flight lessons available. See the Wings of Freedom website for information and to make an advance reservation for a flight experience. The flight experience would be an excellent gift for an aviation buff.
