Wings blue liner Brian Rafalski to retire; NHL Playoff round up for 5-24

ESPN is reporting that Detroit Red Wings defensemen Brian Rafalski is planning to retire from the NHL after 11 seasons.  This however has not been confirmed.

Wings GM Ken Holland had this to say yesterday regarding Rafalski.

“I know there are a lot of rumors out there, but he hasn't told me he's retiring," Holland told the Detroit News.

Rafalski has won three Stanley Cups, two as a member of the New Jersey Devils (2000 and 2003) and one here in Detroit (2008).

Tim Thomas made 33 saves to help power the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night in Beantown. With the win, the Bruins are just one win way from the Stanley Cup Finals as they hold a 3-2 series lead. Game six of the Eastern Conference Finals takes place in Tampa on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. EST on Versus.

Out west, the Vancouver Canucks will host the San Jose Sharks in game five of the Western Conference Finals tonight, holding a 3-1 series lead. The puck drops at 9 p.m. EST on Versus.
