Less than two hours away from downtown DC lies a sleepy little town which will be coming alive this Saturday afternoon. Winestock 2010 will be held at the Knob Hall Winery, September 11th from 11 AM – 9 PM. Not only will this event be graced with 80 degree weather and sunny skies, but will benefit the Breast Cancer Awareness—Cumberland Valley organization (http://www.bcacv.org/about.php).

Live music kicks off the event with the featured bands – Adam Taylor (adamtaylormusic.com) starting at 12:00, Side FX (www.sidefxband.net)) goes on at 1:30, and Mama Jama (www.mamajama.com), hits the stage at 4:00.

If the live music does not draw you to Clear Spring, the food and wine should with vendors Leiter’s Fine Catering, Hempen Hill BBQ and Catering, Flannery’s Tavern on the Square, and Antietam Dairy.  Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate on Saturday.

The sponsorship list for this event is fairly impressive and includes: Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Washington County Agricultural Marketing Committee, Hagerstown Magazine, Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, AC&T, and Antietam Cable Television. More sponsors being announced soon!

Knob Hall Winery is Washington County’s only winery, and has 29 acres of land under grape production. The acreage includes the following grape varieties: Albarino, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Traminette, Vidal Blanc, Viognier, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. The winery is expanding and will have 60 acres of land planted with grape vines.

Earlier this year, the winery unveiled its first four wines. Knob Hall currently offers a dry French hybrid red wine called Chambourcin. The wine has a full body and a fruity taste. Knob Hall also is selling its Vidal Blanc white wine, a dry rosé and a semi-dry rosé. Other wines will be ready by Winestock, including a Bordeaux-style blend, a merlot and a semi-dry blend.

Knob Hall Winery is moving forward with pans for an official tasting room, and is working on refurbishing the farm’s old stone bank barn into an events facility to cater wedding receptions, corporate dinners and other events.
