As Halloween approaches we see the ghosts go up on the lawns in neighborhoods where children play and trick or treat while adults get into the spirit of the holiday by having there own parties to compete for the best costume. The wines most befitting for these gatherings are those from Casillero Del Diablo as to quote the company they are “ A Match Made In Heaven… or Hell.
You may ask why Casillero del Diablo, the Chilean wines from Concha y Toro because the devil himself adorns the shoulder of every bottle. That devil has the likeness of winemaker Marcelo Papa. Legend has it that the founder of Concha y Toro, Don Melchor found his wines were disappearing so he said that the devil lives in his cellar guarding his wine.
Two wines to consider for a Halloween caper are the 2011 Casillero Del Diablo Coastal White and the 2011 Casillero Del Diablo Winemakers Red Blend. The Coastal White is a blend of Chardonnay and Moscato. There is a sweet note to this bright wine making this a perfect party wine. The Winemakers Red is a blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20%Carmenere. The wine is a subtle blend with a velvety texture and round soft tannins.
The hallowed Chilean spirits are ever present in each bottle of these wines enticing you to get into the spirit of your Halloween festivities. Remember the spirits coming from each wine bottle will not be the ghostly ones but rather those devilish ones that bring forth good cheer and fun.
Make your Halloween a spirited one with Casillero Del Diablo.
