As summer approaches and wine enthusiasts and others plan their summer vacations, I cannot help but think of visiting Santa Ynez Valley for a wine adventure or just simply a visit to this laid back area of Santa Barbara County. Santa Ynez Valley encompasses the communities of Solvang, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Buellton and Ballard but it is Solvang that is most congenial for a visitor as pretty much everything is in walking distance except if you decide to venture off to a winery. While visiting the area I highly recommend staying at the Wine Valley Inn & Cottages.

The Wine Valley Inn & Cottages is a charming old world hotel

This is one of my favorite hotels in the area. The old world charm is alluring and the hospitality is exceptional. Almost every room is a little different with its alcoves, vaulted ceilings and loftier retreat. The rooms exude a European ambiance. There are one-bedroom standard rooms, Chateau Loft suites, Village suites and 6 cottages. Stepping into the gardens is like entering an idyllic world. Many of the cottages feature private yards.

The hotel is now under new management, Kamla Hotels. You will gradually see many changes occurring over the next year. Kamla Hotels, is anticipating focusing their renovations on the hotels rooms by upgrading them with new furniture, bedding package, new flooring and improving the bathrooms. The new owners embarked on changes to the hotel with the installation of a new stairway and decks. It is funny how what appears to be a small innocuous change can have such a dramatic affect. The deck floors look cleaner, sturdier and more welcoming.

The Wine Valley Inn is a combination of two hotels that were later united into one. The hotels were the Chimney Sweep Inn and the Tivoli Inn Hotel. The buildings of Solvang must incorporate Danish culture and use the timber style architecture known as bindesvaerk on the exterior of the buildings and the Wine Valley Inn does just that. Dr Van Valin originally owned the Chimney Sweep portion of the hotel. He was enthralled by C.S. Lewis” Chronicles of Narnia and after a trip to France was taken with the charm of French architecture. This love is evidenced in the quaint cottages that surround the lovely landscaped gardens and Koi ponds that while staying, you to will have an extraordinary adventure as you escaped into your own Narnia. The Tivoli, which occupies the village clock tower was owned and built by Mr. Earl Petersen.

Sandy Hallmann, General Manager of the Wine Valley Inn is excited to welcome you, your family and even your four legged dog friends. Hotel staff are gracious and go out of their way to accommodate your needs. They ingratiate you with the Danish flavor of Solvang.

Complementary Continental Breakfast is included. There is an on-site exercise facility and various spa treatment packages available. Wine Valley Inn has a wine bar that serves wine from local vineyards from 3 - 8 PM daily.

The Wine Valley Inn is one of the only hotels in Solvang that is pet friendly.

I think the best recommendation I can give is when encouraging friends to stay at the Wine Valley Inn & Cottages and they return very pleased with their accommodations.
