A few nights before a much-anticipated outing with friends, a local news report aired, which depicted a wild time at a popular Long Island vineyard. Neighbors within the rural community of Cutchogue lodged a complaint against Vineyard 48: visitors frequently engaged in public sex, intoxication, and wild partying. Coincidentally, Vineyard 48 was the last stop of the tour the Long Island Women’s Style Examiner and friends were booked on.
It should be noted that there are many wine tasting tours available on Long Island. North Fork Wine Tours, the booking agent responsible for the above outing, markets to partygoers attending bachelorette parties and birthday celebrations, among other events.
A limousine chauffeured the group to three vineyards. Baiting Hollow Farm was the first stop of the wine tasting tour. The vineyard is home to a horse rescue and while the facility is beautiful, the pungent odor of manure overtook the wine tasting experience.
Next visit was at the picturesque Laurel Lake Vineyards, which appeared to be the overall favorite of the group. Lunch was served amidst a field of grapes as the wine tasting and additional libations were consumed. It was the perfect setting for moms to relax, bask in the sun and enjoy the atmosphere sans the kiddies.
The first two wineries were set amid a soothing backdrop of music provided through a single keyboardist/vocalist, but as was reported earlier, the party began at Vineyard 48, the final destination of the North Fork Tour. The host who greeted the limos hurriedly shuffled the women out of the car with crude undertones that didn’t faze the birthday girl, who schmoozed him into offering the gathering “anything they needed”, which turned into an empty promise, as he was invisible for the entire excursion.
Unlike the previous wineries, young, single men were in abundance and dancing on the makeshift dirt dance floor led by a DJ. It felt more like a day in the Hampton Bays spent at the Boardy Barn, than in the tranquil vineyards of the North Fork of Long Island.. The tables inside of the facility were gathered against the walls and all who entered were ushered outside, under the tents. Wine was offered and sampled in clear plastic cups and the atmosphere just could not compete to what was enjoyed earlier.
This was a big party, plain and simple. Although, there is nothing wrong with that if it is what one desires, Vineyard 48 was not what was expected from a wine tasting experience.
Is North Fork Wine Tours recommended? Yes, but not for couples, those who want to escape for a day and relax or serious wine tasters, unless of course a dance party is how you want to end the day. For those Long Island lovelies who like to dance, party and let loose, then most definitely check out the North Fork Wine Tours for an unforgettable and enjoyable day between besties.
