We have been reporting on Terra since its opening back in March, which we discussed in the article at this link. This restaurant is located at 4260 Herschel Street in Jacksonville. If this address rings a bell, its probably because it used to be the location of Pastiche, a local favorite that had a popular patio area. Michael Thomas, who was previously involved with Sterlings, 24 Miramar, and Sliders, opened Terra with the intention of offering diners "simple style" cuisine. Patrons can expect dishes like the cheese plate ($12)with Stilton Bleu, Irish Cheddar, Cranberry Stilton, and Goucester Double Cream served with truffle honey, crostini, and fig jam. Other highlights on the menu include fried green tomatoes ($8), lamb chops ($24), Maple Farms pan seared duck breast ($24) and Black & White Seared Tuna ($28) featuring sashimi grade tuna covered with toasted sesame seeds, hericot verts, Nicoise olives, and roasted tomatoes.
If you're looking for a new fine dining experience, then you may want to try Terra...and if you like wine, then their bi-monthly wine tastings are an ideal time to visit. Every 1st and 3rd Monday, Terra hosts a wine tasting. A noteworthy upcoming wine tasting will occur on Monday, November 25th and feature Rick Sayre, Head Winemaker at Rodney Strong.The most recent tasting was managed by Treasury Wine Estates and featured Penfolds & Chateau St. Jean with Mark Shapiro acting as guest speaker. The following wines were featured:
- Chateau St. Jean 2010 (Robert Young Chardonnay)
- Chateau St. Jean 2009 (Belle Terre Chardonnay)
- Penfolds Bin 28 2010 (Shiraz)
- Penfolds Bin 8 2010 (Cabernet/Shiraz)
- Penfolds Bin 407 2010 (Cabernet Sauvignon)
If patrons stay for dinner, then the wine tasting is $5, if not, it costs $10 per person. Limited edition wines are available at reduced prices (subject to availability). The tastings start start at 5:30pm and run until 7pm (Apertifs and mixer from 5:30pm-6pm and wine tasting from 6pm-7pm).
