Not long ago, top quality Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from venerable California producers like Chateau St. Jean, Rodney Strong, Kendall Jackson and Clos Du Bois commanded $15 to $20 per bottle.

Don’t know if it’s the recession, or a fire sale for Thanksgiving, but these four wineries have their wares on sale at Fry’s Food Stores now through Friday for a mere $6.99 each, when you buy six bottles. Each bottle is sale priced at $7.77 each, then Fry’s reduces this by 10 percent when you buy six. Score!

I’m going to make it an even 12 and go for three bottles of each. We’ll pour a few at Thanksgiving and stash the rest for easy sipping. Cheers!
