Despite a heavy schedule, the Finger Lakes and the Capital Region do not have a stranglehold on New York's summer wine festival lineup. Here are a pair tucked nicely between New York City and the lower Hudson Valley.

-- The Putnam County Wine & Food Fest is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3, on the grounds of the Patterson Flea Market, 3161 Route 22 in that community. There is no on-site parking available. Visitors are asked to use the lot south of the Metro North Patterson Train Station, close to the Patterson Recreation Center. Signage will direct them to the parking lot, and a shuttle is available to transport them to and from the venue during festival hours.

Admission to the Wine Garden is $30 per person each day, and $20 to the Beer Garden. Tickets are available online now. Complete details on the event are available here. Further details: (800) 557-4185 extension 9.

Live music is a major part of the Putnam County event. Among bands already signed up for the event, with more to be added according to the festival organizers: The Jim Marrone Trio, Mike Latine and Jim Novak, Don Lowe, Liana Gabel Band, The Might Few, I Inbassa and the Just Nuts Party Band.

-- The SoWe (Southern Westchester) Food & Wine Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 20-21, at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck and Scarsdale.

The festival has lined up an impressive cast of culinary names to be involved in demonstrations, book signings and competitions. It includes the likes of Rocco Dispirito, Graham Elliot, Jacques Torres and Dave DiBari.

Admission to the event is free both days, although there will be fees charged for tickets allowing sampling of wines, beers and artisan local foods. Tickets already are available online. Phone: (917) 733-3900.
