Potent low pressure was entering southwestern Canada, via the upper Great Lakes, this morinng. A line of heavier showers, tied to the low pressure system’s cold front, was traversing through western New York. These showers will sweep through the Capital Region, along with the frontal boundary, in the late morning to early afternoon hours today.
The main headline of the day will be strong and gusty winds. A brisk southwesterly flow will be prevalent ahead of the frontal boundary this morning. Upon the passage of the boundary, winds will shift to the west, and speeds are expected to increase. There will be a slackening to the winds by sunset. Wind advisories remain in effect for the Capital Region into the early evening hours.
A secondary cold front is forecast to sweep through the region late on Saturday, bringing the threat for another round of showers. This front will mark the entrance of a significantly cooler airmass into the region. The second half of the weekend looks blustery and chilly.
High pressure builds into the region for the beginning of the new work week, bringing tranquil, yet chilly weather to region before it slides off the New England coast by midweek next week, allowing for temperatures to moderate.
