Alcohol during the holidays.
Raising your champagne glass for the New Year to come has worldwide significance. We hope for better days fill with great happiness, health and prosperity.
However, excessive alcohol consumption causes many injuries, deaths and health problems. Drinking responsibly is a major requirement if we want to start the New Year safely.
Preventing excessive alcohol use.
Reminder: irresponsible drinking causes many accidents; often deadly.
Alcoholics or people with a drinking problem should try to curb their consumption amount; at least during the holidays. A simple glass of an alcoholic beverage is often enough to renew addiction. This is due to chemical imbalance.
Binge and underage drinking.
By now everyone knows that excessive alcohol use: 5 or more drinks for men or 4 or more drinks for women, can lead to increased risk of health problems. Those are injuries, delinquency problems, violence, motor vehicle crashes, liver diseases, stroke, defect in developing fetus, falls, drowning, burns and firearm injuries, different type of cancer and death.
Motor vehicle crashes: Alcohol slows reaction time, impairs judgment and coordination. All are skills required to drive a car safely. The more alcohol consumed, the greater the impairment.
Moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 for men. Still, everyone being different some of us can be drunk with less. Medications, illicit drugs should never be mixed with alcohol.
Alcohol is the third leading cause of death.
The centers for disease control and prevention ranks alcohol as the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Over 9 million Americans are considered alcoholics or problem drinkers.
- DON’T LET SOMEONE DRUNK, DRIVE. No matter what.
