Memo to Monaco Grand Prix fans: If your yacht is slated to be in drydock next May – or, heavens, even if you don't have a yacht – Windstar Cruises wants you to know about the next best way of sailing to the races.
Two of the line's super-yachts will be heading to Monaco during the crème de la crème of the world's racing events. On one, Windstar's new Star Pride, you could bunk down in one of the ship's 106 posh suites on its seven-day “Grand Prix of Monaco” cruise departing from Rome/Civitavecchia on May 21. Among highlights of the cruise package are choice grandstand seats during the qualifying races and also during the finals. After the race, cruise guests will rub elbows with the international silky set at a reception at the world-famous Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo in the Principality of Monaco.
Other ports of call during the cruise will be the ritzy town of Cannes on the French Riviera, Portoferraio on the island of Elba off the Italian coast, and Portofino and Portovenere on the Italian Riviera. The voyage will end back at Rome/Civitavecchia on May 28.
Another option is to sail to Monaco – literally under sails – on Windstar's Wind Surf, the flagship of the line's three sailing yachts. You could be among 310 fellow racing fans on a seven-day “Yachting the Riviera” cruise departing Rome/ Civitavecchia on May 20. Passengers from the Wind Surf can join guests from the Star Pride in seeing the qualifying and final races from grandstand seats.
Other ports of call on the Wind Surf's Riviera cruise will be much the same as the shore stops on the Star Pride, but the Wind Surf's May 20 voyage ends on the French Riviera at Nice.
“(The two voyages) offer the ideal opportunity for guests to cruise through all the pleasures of the Riviera combined with a chance to take part in one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world,” says Windstar CEO Hans Birkholz.
Prices for the May 21 voyage of the Star Pride start at $6,199 per person including the Grand Prix shore excursion. Contact your travel agent or Windstar at 1-(800) 258-7245 for costs of the May 20 sailing and shore excursions on the Wind Surf.
Windstar operates a fleet of small luxury cruise ships known for their intimate yacht-style experience and unique voyages to small ports and hidden harbors around the world. Its three recently renovated sailing yachts carry fewer than 300 guests and cruise to 50 nations, calling at 100 ports throughout Europe, the South Pacific, the Caribbean, and Central America. Earlier this year, Windstar agreed to purchase the Star Pride and two other all-suite motorized yachts with a capacity of 212 passengers each.
