Windows 7 Can't Shake Macs off their Throne

Windows 7 might very well have been a long awaited and necessary improvement on Vista, but it doesn't make a difference in the popularity Apple's (AAPL) Macbooks have been enjoying. Microsoft (MSFT) might have hoped it would regain some of its slipping market share in the operating software business, but those who have switched from PC to Mac don't seem too keen to switch back anytime soon. No great Windows 7 reviews is likely to change this either.

I believe, as an avid Mac user myself, that those who have switched to Apple computers are simply too happy to have a system that just works, that switching back is simply not an option unless Microsoft can show even more innovative development in the future than Apple will.

Microsoft has been the laughing stock of many Apple commercials since the very successful introduction of the Mac vs. PC ad campaign, and the introduction of Windows 7 has spurred another clever take on this rivalry.

Whether Windows 7 will do something for current PC users remains to be seen, but for now it has done nothing yet for the Microsoft stock price.

The Mc vs. PC feud doesn't end with Windows 7

Definite improvement over Vista. In particular it updates drivers much better, and Firefox never says "Not Responding". So far I would say it runs as smoothly as a Mac on cheaper hardware. I'm not reading about any virus problems since Vista came out. I paid $50 at the pre launch months ago. Not sure if it is worth a C note more than Vista.

Nice biased review of windows 7 here by a typical No-Knowledge Mac user. The new Mac vs PC commercials are just a desperate attempt to make the release of Windows 7 look like "another vista" which it clearly is not because of the wide use of the product and the fact that the vast majority of people that use windows 7 absolutely love it. The fact that it is a really good
product scares the crap out of apple.

    Heres why I choose pc:

You dont have the immense choice of software on a mac that you would have on a PC. I can buy a $800 PC for the SAME price as a $1000+ MAC with the SAME hardware. And for $50 for an anti-virus I dont have to worry about viruses. The choice is clear PC!!!

this article is hilarious. total apple-love... Windows 7 has been released now for what? 9 days? so funny that anyone tries to take shots at it's ability to gain share after not even 1.5 weeks on the market.

Bias much? What throne does Apple have again? Sure, they have the Smartphone market in hand, and the portable music player as well, mainly due to the Apple store. Those both work well... well, they work well enough. They came to these markets and brought some good innovation. However, those products don't compete directly with Windows 7.

Apple is still quite far away from being the Desktop OS king... it's still very much in second place as the queen. I mean, Windows 7 Pre-Orders were making news at Amazon, breaking record sales marks etc... I don't recall a whiff about Snow Leopard.

This article written by Christine Buske simply represents a POV of many Mac people out there. She is speaking on behave of the majority of Mac people out there and it is simply a fact that she like so many Mac people are happy with a Mac and have no plans of switching no matter what kind of argument you give. SO WHAT if she's biased. She's as biased as any other Mac person that will stay with Mac and any PC Window lover is just as biased as she is. So what. Mind your own business and let people love what they want to love. If you're against this line of thinking than you are simply a fascist.

I am actually happy this article sparked such a heated conversation! Yes, I am a biased Mac user, but for work I also have to use a PC. So perhaps I am a biased 'dual' system user. I do love my Mac, and I find the commercials hilarious (seriously, who doesn't?), but I wrote the article with my reader's sense of humor in mind... we all have one, right? Yes, there is a serious message that Windows 7, despite it's successful release, has done nothing for the Microsoft stock price (and this is a very serious and unfortunate fact).

For those living with PCs, how much is your time worth?

Over the last 15 years, our family's 5 Macs have had their problems. I spend an avg of 25 hrs per YEAR fixing them. Some years, I spend no time at all!

If you had 5 PCs how many hrs per YEAR would you need to keep them running?

It seems the article had changed since I've written my previous comment. I notice at least some spelling corrections, and the article in it's current state doesn't inspire the ire I felt previously, so some bias may have been removed.

The title is what I mainly had issue with though, and not a users preference in Operating Systems. The title leads the reader to believe that Mac's are the dominating Desktop OS, and that's simply not the case.

As far as OS's go, it's really whatever system works for your needs. My Windows based systems run perfectly fine, and works for my needs as I am still a PC Gamer, and enjoy the vast application compatibility only found with Windows systems. Windows is so compatible that it's OS is typically run either in tandem (Parallels) or as a dual boot option for it's compatibility.

    Zac,
I respect your opinion, but I did not change the article since I published it.
As for who dominates who; you can take my title also in a non-literal way, which is how it was really intended. Macs are, and have been put, on a pedestal. Whether you agree they deserve it or not.
I really appreciate all the comments though, I'm pretty new here and am very excited to have sparked a conversation!

"Yes, there is a serious message that Windows 7, despite it's successful release, has done nothing for the Microsoft stock price (and this is a very serious and unfortunate fact)."

Nothing? Not only did MSFT jump 10% immediately after Win7 shipped, share price also steadily increased during the weeks leading up to the release date. Could you check these sorts of facts before making future assertions?

I have built a couple PCs. They run fine for the most part. I've had to reformat the hard drives in them after a couple years but I am quite experienced so it took a few hours max. Macs are good for inexperienced computer users or those not wishing to delve into too much high-level computer technology. If you want to build your own computer, you should go PC. If you want to have a free OS (Linux- Ubuntu is great) then you should go PC. If you want to have the widest possible selection of software, then you should go PC. But if you want to just write essays/papers, explore the web, listen to music, watch videos, etc and not really get too crazy. Then you should consider a Mac. Or maybe even a netbook....those things look cool.
