Win/Win With WHMIS

If there is one thing that can be said about today’s job market it is the notion that it is an employer’s market.  Sadly enough, even those employed know that.  Fear about job security runs rapid.

Are you in a work environment where a complaint should be made but you are hesitant to call into the Labour Board, lest you be discovered?

According to Section 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, an employer must: “take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker;”

If you are in a scenario where you have approached a supervisor or the company on an issue and you are gaining no resolve one way to ensure a formal complaint is filed is to go to http://www.labour.gov.on.ca/ and type up a complaint form.  The form is then processed by the Deputy Ministry.  That way you are certain your complaint is addressed and you are able to remain anonymous.  Let’s face it, jobs are not a dime a dozen anymore but we have the right to address work place issues be they unsafe work conditions, harassment, unsafe equipment, etc.   Should you be interested in calling the Ministry of Labour and making a complaint; the toll free number is: 1 (800) 268-8013. Make sure your information is being written down.  This way you preserve a paper trail or record of your efforts.

Just because the economy is tight doesn’t mean the work environment should be skimped upon.
