As you will see from his career highs, Wilt Chamberlain was a larger than life human being. Wilt did things on the basketball court in the NBA that no other player did, and probably never will.
These are the most points, rebounds, assists and blocks that Wilt Chamberlain ever had in a NBA game. That is, Wilt Chamberlain's career highs for a game in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.
Wilt Chamberlain's career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks
- Most points Wilt Chamberlain ever scored in a NBA game - 100
Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record for most points in a game with 100. Wilt famously scored 100 points in a game on March 2, 1962, while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors vs the New York Knicks at the Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
For the game, Wilt Chamberlain made 36 of the 63 shots he took from the field, and he also made 28 of 32 free throws. Wilt also grabbed 25 rebounds in 48 minutes played, as Philadelphia beat the Knicks, 169-147.
Breaking down Wilt Chamberlain's scoring by quarters, he scored 23 points in the first quarter, 18 in the second, 28 points in the third, and 31 points in the fourth quarter. The 59 points Wilt scored in the second half is still the NBA record for most points in a half by a player.
The 31 points Wilt Chamberlain scored in the fourth quarter set the NBA record for most points in a quarter by a player. That record has since been passed by Carmelo Anthony, George Gervin, and David Thompson.
- Most rebounds Wilt Chamberlain ever had in a NBA game - 55
Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record for most rebounds in a game with 55. Wilt set the record for most rebounds while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors in a game vs the Boston Celtics on November 24, 1960. There's great irony that Wilt set the record for rebounds in a game vs the Celtics.
Wilt's great rival, Bill Russell was the Celtics center. Russell himself had just set the record for most rebounds in a game eight months earlier in 1960, when he grabbed 51 rebounds vs the Syracuse Nationals. And even though Wilt set the record for most rebounds in a game with 55, the Celtics beat the Warriors in that game, 132-129.
- Most assists Wilt Chamberlain ever had in a NBA game - 21
The most assists Wilt Chamberlain ever had in a NBA game is 21. Wilt had 21 assists in a game on February 2, 1968, while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers vs the Detroit Pistons.
When he had 21 assists in a game, Wilt Chamberlain set two NBA records that still stand today. The 21 assists in a game is still the most ever by a center in one game, and Wilt also had 22 points and 25 rebounds in the game, becoming the first and still only player to ever record a double-triple-double (20 or more in three statistical categories).
- Most blocked shots Wilt Chamberlain ever had in a NBA game - 25?
The NBA did not start counting blocked shots as a stat until the 1974 season. However, NBA historian Harvey Pollack claims he counted a game in the playoffs where Wilt blocked 25 shots.
If anyone out there does not believe that happened, than you will have to accept 23 blocks as a career high for Wilt, because he blocked 23 shots on a nationally televised game on Christmas Day in 1968, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers vs the Phoenix Suns. Wilt had just joined the Lakers in 1968.
