Willow Smith is a pre-teen who knows what she wants and what she wants is to simply act her age. With that in mind, Entertainment Tonight via MSN reported on Nov. 6 why Will Smith's kid recently dropped out of the remake of the movie version of "Annie."
The "Whip My Hair" singer told her pops that she just wasn't into the project at hand. This information came out when the patriarch of the popular show business family talked about his little girl in front of a crowd who had gathered at Temple University in Philadelphia to hear him speak.
Will boldly told these Pennsylvanian fans why Willow is no longer attached to the Jay-Z project. He explained that his daughter came to him about working as an actress in the new flick, telling him, "'You know, daddy, I don't think so.'"
But Will wasn't having it.
He reminded his child that if she did the movie then she would be in the Big Apple on location with her friends. He added, "'....Beyoncé will be there. You will be singing and dancing."
In response and in a deadpan manner, the young entertainer glanced at her father and simply replied in all sincerity, "Daddy, I have a better idea. How about I just be 12?"
Will Smith has often been protective of his daughter, remarking at one point that she won't be dating until she reaches the age of 40. But now he is learning to listen to his little girl, who is wise beyond her young years. The veteran actor said that by hearing what Willow's has to say, he is realizing that he and other parents have "to snap...back and refocus on the emotional needs of the people that [they] love."
He added, "Someone's emotional needs can be very, very different from your dreams and what you think they should be doing and where they are supposed to be."
And so, while Will's hope that his daughter will be of middle age before she starts to go out with another person on a romantic basis, this probably won't come to pass for Willow Smith. With that said, one thing seems to be true at this point in his pre-teen's relatively short life: This accomplished child star just wants to act her age.
As Willow Smith put it, she just wants to be 12.
