Willow Smith released her latest single on her Twitter account on Monday night for the fans to hear. The style of her new tune is very different, but that didn't stop her fans from appreciating Sugar and Spice. The song has been out less than 24 hours and it is already causing a controversy with other fans.
There isn't any doubt the lyrics are written by Willow Smith, but apparently the sampling of the music is from Radiohead. Fans of the band are miffed that the Codex single sample hasn't been properly credited in Willow’s project. There is no mention of Radiohead on the Soundcloud entry and it isn't part of her Twitter account announcement either.
“I know this melody belong to Radiohead...CODEX......The King Of Limbs....I HAVE THE ALBUM....so yea I know is not her music....but she wrote the lyrics and are great,” wrote Orlando Aguasvivas about the song online. Radiohead fans are out in full force letting Willow Smith fans where the music has been published before and making people aware of the connection to Radiohead.
While the lyrics are darker than previously heard from Willow Smith, the creative content of the song has fans appreciating that the artist is looking at different concepts with her music. As everyone knows, Willow Smith is a teenager looking to find her voice as she grows up and she is writing (as well as listening) to many types of tunes.
