Willow Glen High wins Mock Trial Championship 2013

San Jose, CA (March 1) -- Undefeated Willow Glen High School Mock Trial Team won over Monta Vista High School Team and was crowned as the Champion in the just concluded Santa Clara County High School Mock Trial Tournament 2013 held last night at the Santa Clara Courthouse.

Entering the finals as an undefeated team, the win for Willow Glen marks its first mock trial county championship. The win advanced the team to the state championship to be held in Riverside, California on March 22-24, 2013.

The members of the winning team are: Willem Bowman, Max Callahan, Travette Dion, Lizi Doar, Donald Franks, Anni Guptill, Nick Kane, Emily Kulers, Sylvia Lutze, Peter Tamura, Jeremy Scharf, Morgan Sprinkles, Maiya Rodocker, Mason Scharf, and Kames A. Scharf (Coach). Twelve of the 15 are expected to defend their title.

"It was such an honor to take part in he mock trial competition, our team worked extremely hard and was exceptionally coached. We are all so very excited t have won and look forward to representing Willow Glen High School and Santa Clara County in the sate championship," Anni Guptill, a member of the prosecution team said.

The team was coached by Assistant United States Attorney James A. Scharf. After the team's victory, he said, "This couldn't have happened to a nicer group of kids. The team chemistry was off the charts. More than teammates, they were friends and partners. With virtually the entire team returning next year, the sky's is the limit for what this talented, hardworking and utterly charming group of students can do".

This was the second year in a row that Willow Glen was in the finals.
