Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios present "This Is Memphis"

Boo Mitchell and Royal Studios Present: "This Is Memphis" a concert celebrating the forthcoming feature film and CD of the same name. The movie will highlight the collaboration of legendary Memphis artist with the new generation of current and rising stars. "This Is Memphis" will feature performances by Mavis Staples with the North Mississippi Allstars, Bobby Blue Bland joins Yo Gotti, William Bell and Snoop Dogg, Bobby Rush with Frayser Boy among others.

The free concert is this Thursday June 28, 2012 at the Levitt Shell and will give you a glimpse of what the movie and CD will offer. Performing at the concert will be Blues great and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bobby "Blue" Bland. Otis Clay, one of the premier deep soul and gospel singers whose voice is a blend of soul, R&B and blues will be joined by Lil Peanut, A young pre-teen Memphis rap star. Lil Peanut is known for his song “You Could Be the One” and his role as the voice of Atticus the rappin’ penguin in the movie "Happy Feet 2." Another blues great who has been singing the blues for decades, Bobby Rush shares the stage with Academy Award winning rapper Frayser Boy. The Hi Rhythm Section joins two of Memphis’ most beautiful and talented rising stars Stefanie Bolton and Ify. The show will be hosted by the Larry Dodson of legendary Stax recording artist the Bar-Kays.

Memphis is known for its music around the world, see the artists that gave the river city its reputation for music excellence and the artists that will carry it into the future. See this free concert under the stars at the Levitt Shell Thursday, the show starts at 7:30.

Proceeds from film are going to charities that support Memphis musicians, the Church Health Center, the Blues Foundation's Hart Fund, Musicares and the Soulsville Foundation.
